PADI OPEN WATER SCUBA INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM (OWSI)

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program is designed to prepare qualified candidates to become PADI Instructors. This course makes up the second half of our Instructor Development Course (IDC) which consists of both the Assistant Instructor course and Open Water Scuba Instructor program. New in 2010 it is further divided into both Foundational Knowledge and Practical Application sections. Also new is the fact that you may complete the Foundational Knowledge online with PADI eLearning ahead of time. Either the OWSI program or the entire IDC must be completed before attending the PADI Instructor Examination (IE). Combining the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the OWSI program in to a continuous program makes up the entire IDC spread over 13 days. Yet another new feature in 2010 you have the option of attending a 2 day Mock IE before the actual IE to make sure you are truly ready. Together with the IDC Skills Demonstration Workshop, EFR Instructor course and Mock IE this makes up our Go Pro II Program.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)Scuba instructors certified by other organizations may cross over to PADI by successfully completing the OWSI program and the IE. You will need to arrive the day before to complete the Orientation though so it is a 6 day course.

Our unique 2-day free IDC Skills demonstration Workshop is also available to our PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and Instructor Crossover candidates. You are also welcome to join us for the Assistant Instructor portion of the IDC at no extra charge. Likewise our one month free Instructor Internship is available to graduates of our Open Water Scuba Instructor program to help better prepare you for the IE and life as an Instructor. If you have limited time or want to gain confidence and experience a good way to go is to complete your AI course and Internship at one program then come back at a later date to complete your OWSI program and IE. In fact this is the ideal way to go for those wanting to be well prepared Instructors with greater chance of success at the IE and if time is not an issue.

Each segment can be scheduled as a stand-alone course or completed all at one time. You have several training options and flexibility for reaching your professional goals depending on your current certification level, experience level, time restraints, etc. Options include:

  • PADI Divemasters you may choose just to attend the AI course first and later on after gaining more experience go on to complete the OWSI program.
  • PADI Divemasters you may attend the full IDC and, upon successful completion, go on to the IE (as long as all other IE prerequisites are met).
  • PADI Divemasters with between 60 and 100 dives because Asia Divers is a PADI 5 Star Career Development Center you may attend the full IDC and provided you have been certified 6 months, have logged 60 dives, are a candidate of our 6 week Career Development program, or are enrolled in 5 pre- and/or post-IDC courses (such as EFR Instructor, Specialty Instructor, etc.), upon successful completion, go on to the IE (as long as all other IE prerequisites are met). You must also be certified as an Assistant Instructor. However your paperwork will not be processed until you meet the 100-logged dives and you will be certified once your graduation registration packets and IE forms have been processed.
  • PADI Assistant Instructors you may attend the OWSI program only and, upon successful completion, go on to the IE (as long as all other IE prerequisites are met). Please consult us for advice. Our advice will be based on your attitude, experience, level of dive knowledge, diving ability, overall understanding of the dive market and consumer attitudes, and your ability to grasp new concepts through independent study. Remedial training, additional IDC curriculum presentations, or full IDC with or without the Pre-Study and Preparation Workshop may be advised.
  • Scuba Instructors affiliated with other certification organizations you may attend an OWSI program only and, upon successful completion go on to the IE. Please consult us for advice. Our advice will be based on your attitude, experience, level of dive knowledge, diving ability, overall understanding of the dive market and consumer attitudes and your ability to grasp new concepts through independent study. Remedial training, additional IDC curriculum presentations, or full IDC with or without the Pre-Study and Preparation Workshop may be advised.
  • Scuba Instructors or dive supervisors affiliated with other certification organizations you may choose to attend the full IDC and, upon successful completion go on to the IE.
