Continuing your education expands your career options, making you more valuable as an employee and staff member. It also sets a good example for your future students.
Career opportunities in the recreational dive industry are increasing rapidly, however so is the competition, especially for the most attractive jobs! To maximize your opportunity in the industry you need to be a cut above the average instructor. Instructor continuing education gives you that needed edge, as well as the opportunity to increase your income and expand your own skills.
Here are programs that you should take, and certifications that you should work towards completing as soon as possible.
iDAP College’s Go Pro Programs are all inclusive, complete education packages that progressively take you through the Career Development Program. Go Pro Programs can be completed consecutively or over a period of time to meet your scheduling needs. You may enroll in any of the courses within the Go Pro on an individual basis provided you meet the entry requirements for that course.
EFR Instructor including Care for Children Instructor
Anyone with an interest can become an EFR Instructor which includes Care for Children Instructor to provide confidence in care for others. PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Specialty Instructor or DAN Oxygen Instructor Course - 1 day
The Emergency Oxygen Provider Course is an essential course for anyone with Rescue training and above? you owe it to your students and yourself to add this to the courses you offer. This includes all of the components necessary to enable the successful participant to teach the Oxygen Provider Course. It is compatible with the DAN America and DAN Europe Oxygen Instructor Courses and is presented by our DAN AP Instructor-Trainer.
Topics covered include recognition of a diving injury; benefits of oxygen provision; handling and storage of oxygen; oxygen delivery systems; teaching the use of the Oxygen Unit; legal issues and course preparation, standards and procedures.
Upon successful completion of Instructor Module 1 you become a Level 1 DAN Oxygen Instructor. A Level 1 Instructor can conduct the DAN Oxygen Provider Module but cannot teach the DAN Resuscitation Module.
Entry Requirements for PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor Course:
- Either be a certified Emergency Oxygen Provider
- No prerequisites if taking an Emergency Oxygen Specialty Instructor Training Course
- • Be a Scuba Instructor with an accredited agency or hold a Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training and a Divemaster Qualification or higher.
- • Be a DAN SEAP member or Subscriber (or a DAN member in the area you choose to teach.
Entry requirements for DAN Oxygen Instructor Course
• Have completed the DAN Oxygen Provider Module.Minimum age:

PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Instructor 1/2 day
The PADI Enriched Air Specialty Instructor course is conducted over 1/2 day and will train candidates how to organize, market and conduct Enriched Air (Nitrox) classes. The course can be conducted as part of the MSDT Prep course or separately and it is included as part of our Go Pro II Silver B, Jade, Gold and Diamond Packages.
Enriched Air Diving is presently undergoing an enormous expansion worldwide and serious career minded instructors are strongly urged to obtain this highly sought-after qualification since it is PADI’s most popular Specialty.
Entry Requirements:
- • Candidates must be PADI Assistant Instructors, PADI Instructors or have completed a PADI IDC/OWSI within the previous 12 months

The courses involve academic presentations and open water dives (except for 6 non-diving specialties). Candidates are shown how to conduct training dives, briefings and scenarios. The Specialties are listed in order of popularity worldwide. You should choose the Specialties that 1. Interest you most and 2. Are of benefit or popular in your area.
Subjects include enriched air diving concerns and planning procedures, night diving techniques and points of interest, wreck mapping and survey, wreck penetration drills, use of wreck reels, deep diving techniques and hazards, air consumption calculations, underwater marine life identification and observation, navigation skills and techniques, multilevel diving techniques using a PADI wheel and/or dive computer, search and recovery
drills, selection and implementation of appropriate search patterns, and use of lift bags, etc.All of the above Specialties can be conducted individually as required or combined with a minimum of five as part of the Master Scuba Diver Trainer Prep course. See the following web page for details.
Note that you will still need to have issued 25 PADI certifications before you will be able to apply for the Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating. However by having the most popular Specialties you will be able to reach 25 certifications much quicker, and with a lot more fun.

PADI IDC Staff Instructor course 13 days
The IDC Staff Instructor course is designed to provide a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer with the additional training necessary to staff PADI IDC’s. Candidates take part in classroom sessions and development spread over 5 days immediately before the IDC followed by auditing an actual IDC spread over 11 days with 2 days off in between. While candidates participate in the entire IDC they develop evaluation and counseling skills. They also see the IDC from an entirely different perspective to IDC Candidates.
A qualified IDC Staff Instructor is certified to teach PADI Assistant Instructor courses and assist in instructor-level training. Topics covered are the same as an IDC, plus additional training in knowledge development, confined water and open water evaluations. Personal skills are also brought up to IDC demonstration quality.
Entry Requirements:
- • Be renewed and in Teaching status as a PADI Instructor for the current year.
- • Hold a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating.
- • Agree to conduct all levels of diver training consistent with the standards and philosophy outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual.
- • Agree to use the PADI System and components entirely.

IDC Audit - 11 days
Some PADI Instructors will find that they have a need or desire to audit a complete PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC.)
This may be required by PADI in order to return to Active Teaching Status after a lapse in PADI Membership. Requirements to regain Active Teaching Status are based on several factors. Please be sure to contact PADI first to verify what is required for your particular situation. We will have to in turn contact PADI for verification.
Some IDC Staff Instructors will choose to audit an IDC in order to gain valuable and required experience in the PADI Instructor Development process. This may be to meet PADI Master Instructor prerequisites or Course Director Training Course prerequisites. Either way you can be assured of being an active part of the team and gain valuable insight in to the professional running of an Instructor development Course. We offer IDC Staff Instructors the opportunity to improve their staffing skills along side our team. Being part of such a comprehensive program will improve your chance of success in the dive industry. Our Staff Instructors are fully involved in all aspects of our programs including morning staff briefing sessions, debriefings and counseling during the program.

PADI Status Update program - 2 days
The primary goal of the Status Update program is to orient PADI Instructors to changes in PADI Standards allowing them to return to Active Teaching Status after a lapse in PADI Membership. One of our Course Directors will update your instructor knowledge and training by conducting a review to cover Standards changes and new materials released during the time you were not renewed.
Requirements to regain Teaching status are based on several factors. Regaining Active Teaching Status may require a Status Update or complete retraining. Please be sure to contact PADI first to verify what is required for your particular situation. We will have to in turn confirm with PADI first before we can begin.
The Status Update is also an effective refresher course for renewed PADI Instructors. In some instances also, PADI Members may be required (by the PADI Quality Management Department) to attend a Status Update for specific remediation.
Entry Requirements:
- • The Course Director must contact PADI first to confirm eligibility
- • If the Quality Management Department requires an Instructor to reorient to PADI Standards the Course Director must contact the QA Department to confirm program content.
