Diving Puerto Galera. A never forgotten experiance.

Twenty years ago the Philippine Government commissioned research on the marine life around Puerto Galera and I think everytone was surprised by the result.

Firstly it seems that 60% of all the seawater fish species in the world which live at depths of the continental shelf can be found off Puerto Galera. Then after much counting and cross checking it was agreed that there are more species of soft and hard corals around Puerto Galera than there are in the entire barrier reef.

Marine biologists looked very closely at the water here and found it to be extremely clean and highly oxygenated with high levels of nutrients contained in the water.

Back tracking the water flow it was found that there is a current originating in mid Pacific that wanders in a South Westerly direction past Puerto Galera and this is the Verde island passage.

Now add to that that the fact that the water temperature here is a constant 25 - 28C all year round and that underwater visibility of 40 meters is not exceptional and you can begin to see why Puerto Galera is so incredibly popular with divers from all over the world. Plus this area is now a protected Marine Reserve.

.Why this became a Marine Reserve

If you decide to come diving in Puerto Galera you will need a dive operation and accommodation. That is where the El Galleon resort excells. We are extremely proud of the quality of our dive school Asia Divers. We have won countless awards and even have a room devited to displaying the awards we have won in the resort. Our training is such that Asia Divers is one of only two dive colleges in the entire Philippines qualified to train from Discover Scuba right up to PADI Instructor.

We generally have 5 dives a day happening with Instructora and Divemasters available to escort you and to ensure you get the best out of each and every dive you do with us.

We also supply a range of gas mixes to enhance your diving. There is Air of course, but Nitrox is overtaking Air here because it virtually doubles your bottom time for depths up up to about 28 meters. Then we have Trimix for the real professionals who want to dive deep.

Other things to do here.

No matter how much you might love diving Puerto Galera you will enevitably spend a lot more time out of the water than in it, so permit us to show you just a few of the things you might like to do when you are in Puerto Galera. You can pan for gold in the streams behind our resort. Hire a guide and do an excursion into the jungle to see some of the local tribes and wildlife. You could play gold at one of the most amazing golf courses in the world where the 19th. hole is 2,500 feet up a mountain and you play down the mountain, finishing up at sea level. We must not forget the local town of Sabang which is a small town literally five minutes walk along the beach from El Galleon. Here you will find shops selling everything from food and T shirts to motor bikes. At night Sabang turns into 'Fun City' there are dozens of bars, restaurants to cater for every nationality and palate as well as discos and live music venues.
