Until fairly recently getting to Puerto Galera was an all day job, but thanks to new motorways it is now a quick and interesting journey

Getting to Puerto Galera. A warm welcome

The main Philippine airport is Manila so let us start from Manila

There are a variety of ways you can get to Puerto Galera.

You can get to Puerto Galera in a small seaplane from Manila.

You can travel to Puerto Galera by bus and then a boat.

You can hire a taxi very reasonably to get to Batangas and then get a boat across to Puerto Galera.

You can journey to Puerto Galera in a luxury limo from El Galleon that will meet you at the airport and drive you to the coast at Batangas. Then you have two alternatives You can either get a regular ferry or a private boat to bring you over to the island of Mindoro.

Prices change almost constantly so please check actual prices by deciding what you think you might want and then speaking with the El Galleon resort yourself. We explain each method of travel in more detail below.

The Bus.

Far and away the cheapest way to get from Manila to Puerto Galera but in general terms the buses to Batangas are private coaches which pick up usually around 8am. Speak with someone at El Galleon for a list of hotel pickup points.

These buses will drive you to the port of Batangas and from there you need to get a boat across to Puerto Galera. The bus journey is likely to take around 2 hours and the boat from Batangas to Puerto Galera about 45 minutes. Overall cost is likely to be in the order of $12 US

Taxi and then boat.

Not particularly cheap. If you do negotiate with a taxi you are likely to find the cost to be in the order of $70 and that is very similar to the cost of asking El Galleon to collect you in an air conditioned limo and taking you to Batangas. Then it is a matter of coinciding your arrival time with a boat to Puerto Galera. The cost of the regular ferry is approximately $10 US

Private transport from Manila to Puerto Galera.

This is the choice of many because it enables you to travel to Puerto Galera at your own pace. We collect you in a luxury, air conditioned limo and drive you to the coast where El Galleon will have a private boat waiting to whisk you over the water to Puerto Galera. The cost for this service is currently $155 one way.

Flying.

This has to be the way to arrive with a statement at Puerto Galera, but at a cost. To do this on your own is probably prohibitively expensive. Last I heard it was $550

The small plane can take a maximum of three passengers providing they have minimal luggage. The pilot of the plane will usually be available to tie in with your arrival at Manila Airport. Ask El Galleon for information. Journey time this way is 40 minutes and the scenery is awesome as you fly over and beside extinct volcanos.

El Galleon - Puerto Galera - Mindoro
Diving movie about Asia Divers resort in Puerto Galera, Mindoro

Diving Puerto Galera - Mindoro.

The diving here is unquestionably the best of anywhere in Oriental Mindoro and some would say all Asia.

Part of the El Galleon beach resort is Asia Divers which is the dive school within the dive resort.

We should tell you right off that here we have more varieties of fish than can be found in the entire Red Sea as well as a greater variety of corals than can be found in the Great Barrier Reef and there is one very good reason why this is so. There is an ocean current that is born in mid Pacific and flows like a gentle river right past Puerto Galera called the Verde Island Passage and this current brings very oxygen and nutrient rich water to us. Verde Island Passage

The Asia divers diving school is highly respected by PADI and is one of only two diving schools in the Philippines qualified to teach at all levels from novice right up to PADI Instructor.

Here you can dive with a range of different gas mixes which include Air, Nitrox and Trimix. You can also hire re-breathers or underwater scooters for added fun.

Other things to do beside scuba in Puerto Galera - Mindoro.

Whilst scuba is undoubtedly the most popular pass time here, we would hate you to thing this is all there is to do here. After all, no matter how keen you might be on swimming or diving you will inevitably spend a lot more time out of the sea than in it.

You could chose to lie around the resort pool supping a beer or cocktail or do something a little more energetic, such as going on a picnic, a boat trip, play golf or even pan for gold in the streams behind El Galleon.

Then there is the small town of Sabang literally five minutes stroll along the beach. This is one of the most swinging towns anywhere on Mindoro. There are shops, a market, numerous bars, restaurants and at least half a dozen discos making it certainly the center of night life in Puerto Galera.

We want to buy you a romantic honeymoon dinner.
