From the time of the Spanish conquest of the Philippines Puerto Galera has been famous. Puerto Galera actually means 'port of galleys' and it was here the Spanish galleons were laden with treasure and set sail for Europe. Happily, for those of us that scuba-dive a few hit the corals and sank.

Since the invention of scuba however Puerto Galera has become a lot more popular than ever. Until twenty years ago this was a sleepy little fishing village and then scientists started to take a serious interest in the sea water running past the North East of Mindoro and discovered that 60% of the worlds shallow water fish varieties are here and that there are a greater number of coral varieties than can be found in the Great Barrier Reef. Not surprisingly the Philippine government made the entire area a protected marine reserve.

It was at about that time too that the El Galleon beach and dive resort was created and provides unashamed luxury to people who want to unwind and enjoy a vacation at the beach.

Our El Galleon resort is a five star beach resort right at the beach and where the sea temperature is a constant 25C - 27C all year round.

Diving in Puerto Galera in Mindoro

Whether you are a highly experienced diver or would like to learn, Asia Divers can provide everything you need. Asia Divers can train to all PADI qualifications from Novice Diver right up to PADI Instructor. We are one of only two diving schools in the Philippines qualified to this level.

Here you can dive with a variety of gas mixes from regular air to Nitrox which roughly doubles the maximum duration of dives to Trimix which enables you to dive deeper. You can also hire re-breathers and under water scooters for added fun. A government survey recently showed that once someone has dived here they will return, on average, ten more times.

Although scuba and water sports are easily the most popular pass times in Puerto Galera, we would hate you to think that is all we have. To name just a very few we have one of the most interesting golf courses in the world where you play down a mountain. You might prefer an outing and regular picnics are arranged. Boat trips, hiking, kiaking, even beach buggying.

Five minutes stroll along the beach from El Galleon brings you to the small town of Sabang which has numerous bars, restaurants for every possible taste and a whole bunch of discos and live music venues.
