Getting to Puerto Galera

Private Transportation from Ninoy Aquino (Manila) International Airport

Direct Private Transport from Manila is the most convenient way to reach here, and can be scheduled any time day or night. To book a private transport, we’ll need your flight number and arrival time.

The private transportation consists of a 2 hour air conditioned car or van journey from Manila to Leah Beach, followed by a one hour boat ride directly to Small La Laguna and the El Galleon Rrsort Pier. Total journey time usually 3 / 3 ½ hours.

Ninoy Aquino Airport has three terminals, directions for pick up and meeting our drivers will vary slightly from time to time and we will provide current details when you arrange your trip.

The aircon car/van will take you directly to a private pier in outside Batangas City called Berberabe (ask the driver if you wish to stop for food, drinks or bathroom. There are plenty of large service stations on the way down). Tip the driver as you see fit, otherwise do not give him any money. All our cars carry cellular phones.

At Berberabe the car/van will stop very close to your waiting boat. Although there are no baggage porters on the pier, the boat crew work for us and will take you directly to The Point (Small Lalaguna) where there will be someone from the resort to meet you (again, they work directly for us, your bags will be safely looked after, tip them as you see fit). All the boats have marine radios.

You should pay for the boat and car on arrival at El Galleon [you should not pay anything beyond tips to the driver or boatmen whilst you are on route].

Transfer from Manila airport or hotel to El Galleon Dive Resort

  • 1-6 people $155
  • 7-12 people $232.50

Cost is one-way for the car/van and boat. It covers the total cost of the transport (not calculated per person): Return transport is best arranged while you are here through us or El Galleon and can often be co-ordinated to share with other outgoing guests.

Transfer from Hotel or private residence in Manila

Just let us know when and where you wish to be picked up from. If you wish to be collected from a hotel in Manila we need the Hotel name, phone number & your room number From a private residence we need the full address and if possible directions to assist the driver as well as a contact phone number.

Driving Yourself? Directions to Sitio Berberabe

Sitio Berberabe is not far from the Shell Refinery on the East side of Batangas Bay.This Coming south from Manila, the STAR Tollway will take you straight to Batangas City. Once through tollgate, turn left at the roundabout towards Batangas City. After approximately 3kms, the "Lions Monument" will appear on your left.

Make the next left turn after the "Lions Monument". Drive to the next intersection on your left, turn and take the next left again and head up till you see the sign for Lobo, SM Mall and the Shell Refinery. From there you have 5km to Sitio. Take the next right, following the signs to SM Mall, Lobo and the Shell Refinery, on the way you will cross a bridge, shortly after you will see the Pontifino Hotel. Before arriving at the hotel you will see a Y intersection that will take you to the new SM Mall, drive past the mall, past the Shell station and keep left, keeping a lookout for the Shell Refinery and Pacific Flour Mills. Pass the Shell Refinery, and beware of the two speed bumps near the Flour Mill gates. Past the Flour Mill. drive another 500 meters and you will see a small local waiting shed with Asia Divers/El Galleon transfer sign. Take the small concrete road, you will see a parking lot and you are there.

Public Transportation from Manila

The public transportation is a relatively inexpensive way to travel to us. However, this option is only recommended for the seasoned traveller who is traveling without much luggage. This would involve an aircon bus from one of several terminals in Manila, and public ferry ( daylight hours only ) from Batangas Pier to Sabang or Puerto Galera proper. Since timing of services does vary, it’s best you contact us in advance for most up to date information on the trip. Total cost including various terminal taxes would be less than $15.00.

We can meet you from any ferry - just give us a call.

Private and Public Transportation combined

We can also arrange a private vehicle to bring you from the airport or any point of Manila, to Batangas Pier and a public ferry. This is an option you could take if trying save a little cost when traveling alone. Best to contact us for advice if you plan to do this.

Accommodation

The best on the beach is the El Galleon Beach Resort within two minutes walk. Beautifully landscaped into the hillside, famous for its welcoming staff, the fine Arthur’s Restaurant and vibrant Point Bar, and with rooms ranging from simple and elegant Poolsides through spectacular Seaviews, and the luxury of the Waimea Annex. You can find out much more about El Galleon ( and Asia Divers ) or we can put you in touch with Reservations.

If you’re coming for a long stay, or just looking to economize, we can also give you guidance with some simple but adequate rooms relatively close by the dive shop. Contact info@techasia.ph if you want to explore your options.

Seasonal Weather

We are an all year round dive resort with the sea normally moderate during December to March and calm during April and May, often talked about by the travellers (not divers) as being the best time of year to be here. Water temperature during December to mid or late February 23° to 27°c.

From June to November (typhoon season July to August) can be and often is some of our best diving conditions. We do get rain (sometimes) during these months, however its normally at night either early evening or early morning leaving the days to be fine and mostly sunny with sea condition being excellent. The visibility is often at its best during this part of the year, however it's not called typhoon season for nothing. There is always the risk of having a typhoon pass by and leaving behind it a day or two of rain and coursing some swells. It's rare that a typhoon would pass through Puerto Galera and in the past years we had one in 1996 and the next two were 2006, May and December!

None since then as of this writing that have affected Puerto Galera. Weather temperatures, mid to late February to November 28°c to 30°c

Currency

US Dollar / Peso cash are preferred (obviously and the best way!). We accept other major currencies as payment, please check with us before you arrive. Tech Asia accepts Visa and Mastercard, El Galleon will also take AMEX. Bank transfers are a good way to make deposits for diving and accommodation and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Please contact us for details.
